Very good novel - but imagine my surprise when I discovered this is the exact same book as The Silk Weaver, also by Liz Trenow.. I purchased both books on Amazon, first buying The Silk Weaver. Thought it was good so ordered The Hidden Thread. Same book, different cover and title. I will be returning The Hidden Thread. Gotta say, this is very misleading!Tags : The Hidden Thread: A Novel [Liz Trenow] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. <strong><em>The Hidden Thread</em> is a breathtaking novel about the intricate craft of silk and the heartbreak of forbidden love.</strong> When Anna Butterfield's mother dies,Liz Trenow,The Hidden Thread: A Novel,Sourcebooks Landmark,1492637513,Romance - Historical - General,England - Social life and customs - 18th century,Love stories,Love stories.,Romance fiction,FICTION Historical General,FICTION Romance Historical General,FICTION Romance Historical Victorian,Fiction,Fiction-Historical,FictionRomance - Historical - General,GENERAL,General Adult,Great BritainBritish Isles,LIGHT ROMANTIC FICTION,RomanceHistorical,Romance: Historical,United States, historical fiction; historical romance; romantic; adult fiction; forbidden love; literary fiction; 18th century; england; book club; relationships; star crossed lovers; london; romance; class struggle; lower class; fast paced; nailbiter; womens fiction; loss; heartache; tragedy; page turner; engaging; lively; happy endings; complex; men and women; domestic fiction; realism; contemporary; domestic; fashion and clothing; class division; english society; love story; period fiction; historically accurate; historical detail; upstairs; downstairs; women; womens fiction, historical fiction;historical romance;romantic;adult fiction;forbidden love;literary fiction;18th century;period fiction;england;book club;historically accurate;historical detail;relationships;star crossed lovers;london;romance;class struggle;lower class;upstairs;downstairs;fast paced;nailbiter;womens fiction;loss;heartache;tragedy;page turner;engaging;lively;happy endings;complex;men and women;women;womens fiction;domestic fiction;realism;contemporary;domestic;fashion and clothing;class division;english society;love story
The Hidden Thread A Novel Liz Trenow 9781492637516 Books Reviews
I love how the reader is given a look at the silk weavers and its art. Prejudice is overcome. Though it is another Romeo and Juliet story, it had wonderful substance and twists and turns.
A good read. Life in the 1700's was not easy by any means especially for women--either rich or poor or in between.Learned about the silk trade as well. I liked the story line also.
I ordered this book by accident, thinking it was another book. No regrets. I really enjoyed it. I did find the ending to be a little abrupt, but was glad the author included an epilogue to tell the reader what happens to the characters in the future.
I gave this a 5-star rating because of the interesting plot line connected with historical facts introducing fabric design based on actual art renderings. This period of time with the introduction of mass producing fabric is brilliant. Tensions between the English and French have always included conflict , which adds to the story''s plot.
I found this book interesting because it looked at a craft that was created by the masses bought by the rich and sold to the wealthy. It also highlighted a society where women were often captive of a society that dictated the reputation of them as well. Very interesting!
I read a lot of historical fiction and this book was a gem. It introduced you to interesting people, studied their backgrounds and ideas of class. It also informs you of the times in London when the silk industry is thriving and some conditions are grim. Of course there is a love story woven in to the fabric of the adventure. I certainly enjoyed it.
The Hidden Thread is a beautiful novel and, without question, one of my top 5 reads of the year . Liz Trenow's knowledge of history (the reason French Protestants left Catholic France), her understanding of class divisions in England, and her expertise of silk making make this book one not to be missed. It is perfect for bookclubs, for anyone wanting to escape the headlines, and for everyone who enjoys well-written prose.
