When a Scot Loves a Lady A Falcon Club Novel The Falcon Club Katharine Ashe 9780062031662 Books

When a Scot Loves a Lady is the first book in the Falcon Club series. The heroine is Lady Katherine Savege, also known as Kitty. Kitty is a bit scandalous, she is a fallen woman who also has a reputation for being a lover scorned when she took down the man who had taken advantage of her. Kitty has taken great care in hiding her true self from the rest of the world so much that most people believe her façade but in truth Kitty no longer believes she has the right to a relationship nor love. The hero is Lord Leam Blackwood. Leam has been on the run from his past and he did so by acting like a Scottish ruffian while he worked undercover for the Falcon Club. Leam is tired of being someone he is not, he is ready to retire and go home to Scotland.

This is a lovely slow moving romance with a cliché plot device where the couple is stranded at an inn both the hero and heroine are tortured souls who find redemption in each other. I really enjoyed how the Leam quotes poetry and even though he does not want to want Kitty, he does. I also like that Kitty is no push over but she is smart and protective.

While this book does not have a lot of action there is a lot being revealed in a subtle manor. The challenge was at times it felt like you had missed something until the end of the book when most things get revealed. I also liked how the couple sees each other once and there is a connection but neither act on it and they continue to live their life. So when they meet at the Inn it is like kismet. While I enjoyed Kitty when she was strong it struck me as odd how difficult it was for her to be truthful with the people who loved her and while the author tried to portray it as shame there was still something missing. Leam also at times is just confusing, he seems to feel one way then does another. Finally, I did not care for the over the top ending which wrapped up a little too quickly and was far too neat.

I did enjoy the book and it was totally worth the $2.99 price. Hopefully, my library will carry the next book in the series.

When a Scot Loves a Lady A Falcon Club Novel The Falcon Club Katharine Ashe 9780062031662 Books Reviews

One thing I really like about Katherine Ashe is that her books are not only great romances, they delve into other areas of life—such as unraveling the past and looking at it through older and more experienced eyes, realizing that at the time characters weren’t necessarily as central to the happenings in the universe as they thought they were, and that they weren’t necessarily to blame for things that happened. I think that’s something a lot of us carry around with us, guilt and/or feelings of blame, guilt, or worthlessness for things we have entirely no responsibility for. Katherine and Leam have these things in spades, and the only way they can possibly have a proper relationship is to work their way through that, with lots of side-roads, snow, and bumps along the way. But they do help each other out. Even though they spend a lot of time carrying on façades while doing it. I really enjoyed this book, the depth of the characters, and the development of secondary characters. Highly recommended.
Leam Blackwood just wants to return home to Scotland and his son, both of which have been neglected while he served 5 years for King and England. Lord Gray (boo, hiss) has other ideas and uses every wile and trick to keep Leam involved.

Lady Katherine (“Kitty”) sought revenge against Lord Poole who ruined her in the eyes of the ton when she was a young, impressionable girl. She collected damning information against him for years, but gave up her vendetta when she shared a somewhat telepathic connection when she saw Leam at a ball. She only used her information three years later when Poole threatened to harm her brother.

Snowbound, Leam and Kitty meet at an inn and their attraction erupted in WAY too much sex to the point where, ¾ of the way into the book, I wondered if there was any other plot line. Actually, I can’t even remember the plot, although there was a funny scene involving the Watch. My book club enjoyed the book but found Leam’s brogue too difficult to understand. I understood his brogue, but found the rest so-so. Stuff happens, sub-characters mention things that make you think that the Falcon Club series is a sequel to another series in which we understand their importance and introduction here.
