I absolutely loved this one. I thought Eleven and Twelve were great as usual and the funny bits made me smile, but I didn't outright laugh like usual with a Stephanie Plum book. This one had me laughing so hard that I got "the look" from my husband. You know, the "she has lost her mind" look.In other reviews some readers have issues with Stephanie's bounty hunter flaws or with the Joe/Ranger triangle. In my opinion, these are the things that make the series what it is. If Stephanie were to wake up one morning less accident prone, more efficient in her job, or were to marry Joe or dump him for Ranger then we wouldn't be reading any more.

After the revelations and suspense of volume 12 in the series (not to mention the hilarity around Sally's band), volume 13 sagged a bit. I never for an instant felt that Stephanie was in any danger of being charged with murder, for example, and I was sorry we didn't learn more about anyone (like we did in 12), but on the second read-through, I laughed more and just ignored the feeble attempts at drama.
The whole bit with Morelli trying to endure Dickie as a house guest is hilarious, and after Lula chews out Ranger, Joe utters the best line in the whole series - "You're hanging out there naked." (Trust me, you gotta read it in context). The exploding taxidermy animals and Steph getting high on weed smoke are additional high points.
In short, very funny - and funnier on the second or third read - but a little tired around the edges.
Perfect for young readers! Started a mini book club with my friends' daughters. This series is great because it incorporates in known Disney stories and fairy tales while adding less common ones.
Then it has excellent lessons intertwined for us to talk about! Like who determines good and evil?
The colors of the pages is super cute and the writing style is fabulous and captivating! As an adult I fell in love with it and enjoyed it as much as the 3rd and 5th graders!!
I was so excited after reading the first one that I've been watching for the 2nd one. I immediately pre-ordered my copy and was reading it the day it came out. It still has the same fun characters you love. I wish the version included the colorful words and pictures. (I later ordered a hard copy to read to my daughter since the color and pics make it a fun read.) To me the storyline was weak - it felt more like a filler book than an actual book. You finish the first book wondering what's going to happen since Raven doesn't sign the book. The second book goes off on a tangent adventure with Apple and Raven trying to save Maddie that while fun to read the whole time I'm just wondering what's going to happen with the non-signing part of the story. It keeps mentioning it but never gives you more on it. Guess I'll have to wait for the 3rd book to find out. So if you're hoping for a sequel to the first one you'll be disappointed just wait for the next one but if you just want a fun read about characters you know and love go for it.
My daughter loves this series. It is based on the lives of the children of our favorite fairy tale prince and princesses. The one idea this I really like is that they dispel the idea that you have to follow a path set for you and encourages individuality. It still has the fairy tale ideals, but allows more room for a female heroine.
This series just gets better and better. I can't believe Stephanie get through a book without blowing up a car! Not saying she didn't ruin one, just didn't blow it up. And Stephanie is in full command of almost nothing as she backs into another dilemma when her ex-husband is missing and presumed dear or badly injured, and fourteen million dollars is missing. Everybody thinks Stephanie has control over the money. Once more, a great read.
Ranger asks Stephanie to plant a bug on her ex Dickie Orr. It all goes according to plan, except for a minor fight and the fact that Dickie goes missing afterwards, which makes Stephanie the prime suspect. Of course Stephanie also has her hands full of entertaining FTAs that range from a grave thief to a taxidermist.
I woke up to a massive headache, so I decided listening to this book would at least improve my somber mood. It worked because even though I felt miserable, I could not help but laugh out loud at some parts. Lula and Grandma Mazur are always a big hit, but the taxidermist and his "bombs" were hilarious! Evanovich knows what she is doing. Her books are written to entertain, and not exactly to move the plot forward when it comes to Stephanie's personal life. She wrecks cars, runs from exploding buildings ( and sometimes exploding animals), while falling for Morelli or Ranger - and that is exactly what I need every now and then. I love this series and I secretly hope the taxidermist appears again.
The Stephanie Plum series never disappoints! I never tire of the main characters and enjoy the relationships between each of them. Grandma Mazur and Lula are my favorites! They are hilarious! Same characters in each book but new FTA's to apprehend. And calamity always insues and keeps the reader entertained. There are the occasional curse words and sexual innuendos. So be aware of that. I enjoy these books and Janet Evanovich does an excellent job in each one to catch the reader up on characters if they happen to forget or pick up a book mid-series.
